How I Help

We can’t control every situation we face.

But we can choose how we respond and interpret things in our environment.

Sophia was walking through her office and passed her boss Mike in the hallway. Mike had a frown on his face and appeared to be angry, he looked directly at her. Sophia did not pause to say hi.

She quickly darted down a side hall and began to feel anxiety spread throughout her body.

Sophia assumed Mike’s anger had to be about her.

She quickly recollected the day’s events and wondered what she had done to make him so angry. She emailed Mike asking him what he thought of her project.

“He must have hated it, I am incompetent.”

“I should have done better.”

“What if I get fired?”

Sophia’s assumption about what others thought about her lacks evidential facts and has very little reality to support it.

These are Sophia’s thoughts, not the thoughts of others.

A more balanced way is knowing the facts.

The fact is that when Mike encountered Sophia, he had just gotten off the phone with the company CEO who reported there were going to be more budget cuts that would greatly affect his employees.

Thoughts affect our emotions which affect our actions. These thoughts can lead to lingering feelings that can trigger our core beliefs and affect our whole day.

Sophia suffers from low self-esteem and is experiencing negative thoughts about her abilities.

This negative thinking pattern might result in Sophia avoiding social situations or passing up future opportunities for advancement at work.

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) can help people deal with depression, anxiety, anger, and a wide range of other mental health problems.

People like Sophia often experience thoughts or feelings that support a faulty belief system.

These thoughts and emotions can result in negative behaviors that affect our daily life, including work, academics, family, and relationships.

People can learn better ways of thinking and responding.

When we identify the negative behaviors, we collaboratively begin to focus on those behaviors and build a set of skills that improve your feelings and change distorted thoughts.

Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) is founded in psychotherapy and is rooted in evidence-based therapies.

I’m excited to announce that I will utilize ART beginning May 1, 2019.

This is a technique used more frequently on the East coast, and I’m glad to bring it to the Midwest.

Within 1-5 sessions, clients with anxiety, depression, PTSD, Panic attacks, or substance abuse begin to achieve rapid therapeutic benefits.

Unlike hypnosis, the client is always in control. As your therapist, I’m just guiding you through the process.

ART reduces thinking about or visualizing the trauma.

The procedure itself uses relaxing eye movements referred to as Voluntary Memory/Image Replacement which changes the way the brain stores negative memories.

Our emotional memories are always changing when we recall them. When using ART, we make changes in the traumatic memory that can help release visual images and emotions that have caused pain in the past.
