Can’t I just solve my own problems?

I don’t solve problems.

I work with you!

I offer guidance, and help clarify issues and areas where you’re struggling. I support you so that you can grow and be self-sufficient and put into practice what we work on together.

Will anyone be told that I go to counseling?

Journey To Hope is committed to confidentiality and will guarantee your privacy.

The only exceptions to this would be if you are:

  1. Immediate threat of harm to self or other
  2. Suspicion of child or elder abuse
  3. In case of court subpoena

I’ll provide you with a copy of confidentiality policies during intake. You also have the right to choose if they want to share the information of what was discussed in the session to family, friends, and others.

How long do your therapy sessions last?

Each therapy session is 50 minutes.

If we decide to meet for a longer or shorter session, I will prorate the hourly fee.

How long do I have to go therapy? When will I know that I am done?

The length of therapy is different for everyone.

Some people who experience stressors in their life may only need six months. Other people in the process might take longer to change deeply rooted patterns and belief systems.

I see a client an average of 6-12 months. We will agree beforehand what your goal will be, perform continuous assessments, and end therapy when the objective is reached.

How do I set up an appointment?

There are three different ways to set-up an appointment.

  1. Call (913) 633-8932 to speak directly to me for a free consultation.
  2. Email me at lstallbaumer@journey2hope.net.
  3. Use the contact form at the bottom of the page.
What are reasons that people might want to work with you?

Most of my clients work with me because they believe they are missing something or want more out of life.

They long to have a greater sense of freedom and hope in where they are going and what they want to change in life. I can help because it is difficult to deal with all of life’s challenges on your own.

I can provide a warmth and peacefulness to anybody that I meet even outside of my job. I want everyone to leave me with more joy in their hearts.

What theoretical approach do you use?

I use a variety of theories and techniques designed to fit the client’s need.

I have found the following methods to be helpful to my clients: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Accelerated Resolution Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, and Client-Centered therapy,

With what kind of clients do you work?

I work with clients of all ethnicities, professions, ages, and family backgrounds—including adolescents, young adults, and families.

Most of my clients are “first timers”—that is, only a small percentage of them have been to a therapist before contacting me.

There is one thing that all people in therapy have in common: the ability to transform their pain and change!

What is your cost for services?

Please call me to learn more about my fees.

What is your cancelation policy?

If you are unable to keep a scheduled appointment, 24-hour notice is required (except, of course, in an emergency). Without 24-hour notice, you will be charged a $30 fee. This fee will need to be paid by your next appointment.

Do you prescribe medication?

No, I am not a medical doctor. Many patients use medication but a lot of them progress well in therapy without medication. I can make a referral to a psychiatrist if you want to be evaluated for medication.

If I go to therapy, does it mean that I am crazy or that there is something wrong with me?

No! You are not crazy. You are actually taking an important step for growing personally and learning how to cope effectively.

You want to take care of yourself—in all aspects of your health. Think of counseling as a professional service like any other—dental care, for example. Cavities don’t develop overnight and can get worse if not taken care of. The same is true with your mental and emotional health.

Again, take care of yourself: Reach out for therapy as an act of self-care!
